Hi,

Well, I took the big plunge and ordered a Zojirushi BBCC-X20 bread machine from Bed, Bath & Beyond! (I am REALLY excited!)

I didn't have it with me but I have a 20% off coupon which the salesman said I could apply toward it at any time, so I'm probably going back there tomorrow. They do have a great return policy so if I'm not happy with the machine, there will be no problems bringing it back.

I have read many reviews on line, both good and bad. But I'm not sure what to believe as I don't know if any of them are influenced by folks that work for Zojirushi (positive reviews) or other bread machine manufacturers (negative reviews). I know I will get completely honest evaluations from the folks on this forum so I would like to know, are you happy with yours? And why?

I will be using it to completely bake bread and also for kneading dough and finishing it in the oven. I think I would prefer to finish all of it in the oven, but my time is extremely limited so letting the machine complete the job from time to time will be very helpful.

Since it is so expensive, this was a big decision for me so I'm hoping for the best. My OLD Oster is ready to "die" any day and I know I will miss the aroma of fresh-baked bread!

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

That is what I bought for my Christmas present. I love how it mixes and raises the dough. I wasn't real crazy about baking in it tho so now I mix and raise in it then take it out shape into loaves or rolls let rise and bake in my oven.

Hi,

Just an update! I received my Zojirushi bread machine today

, way ahead of schedule! I think Bed, Bath & Beyond is the way to go. They told me to expect it in 1 to 2 weeks and it took 2 days to get here from the time I ordered it! Wow! Of course, I wasn't prepared and had to do a lot of work reorganizing the kitchen to make room for it (my old Oster is smaller so I couldn't just exchange it), all the while hoping that I didn't make a mistake.

Well, I have no idea why there are any bad reviews (so far, anyway). I was REALLY anxious to use it so I quickly put together the basic white bread recipe that is included in the manual. Nothing fancy, I let the machine bake it and all. Since I have no experience with the machine, I felt it was remarkable that the bread came out perfect! It rose beautifully, browned just right and has a great texture that made it enjoyable to eat and I could slice it neatly. And the taste is great!

I may run into problems when I try something a little more involved, but I guess that is to be expected. I think the next thing I will make is whole wheat bread. After the machine arrived today, I ran right out to the supermarket to get some baking supplies, including the vital wheat gluten. I can't wait to use it again!

Also, I thought it was important that the bottom of the machine doesn't get hot at all. That was one thing that always worried me about the Oster. It got quite warm and I always used to put it on a thick plastic tray to protect the counter, just in case. It does, of course, make some noise, but nothing that I would consider "noisy" and it doesn't try to "walk" off the edge of the counter, another problem I had with the Oster.

Of course, the Oster is old and was developing multiple problems, most importantly that it wouldn't shut off, even when I pressed the "Stop" button. At the end of the cycle, it would just sit there and "hum", which made me think it could start a fire if left unattended (I'm probably paranoid, but this made me nervous). So I would be sure to be there at the end of the cycle so I could unplug it, the only way to make it shut off.

So far, I am extremely pleased with the Zojirushi but only time will tell!

That is really great to know. I had a Sunbeam for the most part of last year, but it broke, and I havent replaced it yet. Towards the end I got to where I was just using it for mixing, and would bake it in the oven in regular bread pans. Id like to get another bread machine when I get in a better position to.
