Just Ordered Chicks (for October 2nd)! Ack!

I just read elsewhere that a proper time to start introducing treats to them is at 2 months. I do throw rose petals in their run and I pull blossom heads off my basil and tarragon and toss those in there along with a branch or two of thyme. They peck at the seeds, eat some of the herbs and have the sticks to play with to keep from getting bored all day. Plus it keeps the coop and run smelling nice! I am waiting to introduce anymore kitchen scraps. They get dried mealworms as a treat for going back to the coop in the evening.

Mine love tomatoes and apples the red things are best right now. Other than grass and dandelion greens. There are one or two adventurous chicks that show the others what to do with the new vegetation :Dand then it's a feeding frenzy. It's been cold here we had or first real frost. I was worried about them in the coop but with the one heat lamp they seem fine. They have almost all their feathers now too. Need to buy more food this weekend they already went through a 50 lb bag. Hungry beasties with the cold. :D they are really funny how do you tell the Roos from the pulleys. I order all pulls but I know their can be error.

Mine still are not one bit fond of kitchen scraps and they will be 6 wks old on Tuesday. They are getting to forage a little more in the yard starting today but are very timid about venturing too far past their original fenced off lawn area. They are growing so big! I will have to post pics soon. Novice, I think you can tell from the way their feathers come in and if the crow starts to grow bigger than everyone else's. So far all 4 of my girls seem to be feathering the same and no one has a larger crow. I am crossing fingers they are all girls.
