Just ordered my first chickens!

I just recieved my chicks from Ideal last week! Yours will be shipped out on the 2nd. Also we ordered 11chicks and Ideal sent me 14 extra males (free) for warmth, so you will probably get extra males too. Just thought I would let you know because someone on BYC was kind enough to tell me and I didn't know they did that. So I called Ideal and they informed me that they won't ship anything less than 25 chicks this time of year due to the cold temps, and I'm glad they sent the extra's because I didn't lose any, not even any of the extra male's. Ideal makes it very easy to know whitch ones are the males, they send all the same breed and make sure the colors aren't the same as the ones you ordered. So you might call Ideal and see if they are shipping any extras, just so you know what to be excpecting and you aren't shocked when you get your little ones! God bless and keep us posted!

I'm just getting into chickens also. Was lucky enough to be given 6 hens and one happy rooster named Rufus. The first week of March, I will be getting 16 more assorted brown egg layers. It greater than I thought it would. The Kid's are able to free range in a lot about 1/4 acre. The are happy chics.

Thank You theblackridge16 Ideal called me this morning telling me about the males for warmth and I was wondering how many came with it and she said 15-20 and my eyes went big because I thought I was only getting 4 baby chicks so that was a shocker! She said the baby chicks wouldn't make it without the males so I said it was ok and so now I have to buy: A new tote, another brooder light, another waterer and feeder, and more bedding so I will make no plans this weekend which is when she said they are coming in to take care of them. But I am even more excited now knowing I will be getting like 25 chicks!!!

I just ordered my very first batch from mypetchicken.com. I was able to order a minimum of 4 (based on location) and decided to go with easter eggers.
They are set to arrive April 25th.
Cant wait!

We sure go through a lot of eggs!

i just recieved my chicks from ideal!! we lost most of our 1st batch (free roosters aswell) we werent sure why but i called ideal and they reshipped all the HENS we lost plus more roos... we ended of with 19 roos after all of it and 15 pullets...we lost a bunch of our roos from the 1st time didnt lose any from the 2nd!!

i will always be dealing with ideal from now on...they are cheaper and very willing to help...i talked to ross when i was having trouble with my 1st batch and he told me all these things to try to fix it.

btw i sold all my 'free' roos for $1 a piece on CL to make back my shipping.....it worked and i found a lady to take 17 of them to her big farm for "cricket control" so none will become dinner

congrats on your chicks...im sure you will want to continue using ideal, i know i do!!!
