Just ordered!!

I'm way to excited not to share... I just Ordered my first babies for my first small backyard flock. They will be here next week. Now we need to build a brooder. DF starts that project in a few days. I got 5 chicks all different breeds. A RIR, EE, Bluff Orpington, Speckled Sussex and Light Brahma. I can't wait to meet them. Anyone have advice for this chicken newbie?

Enjoy them and take lotsss of pictures! I inherited some babies and am so glad I took as many photos as I did. You don't realize how much they grow or how different they look after a while! Also, don't freak out when they suddenly plop over in random positions and sleep. It's totally normal. And the first time I saw their crops full also freaked me out. I thought they were impacted!

I'm technically getting my first babies on the 31st. ^-^ I placed an order from Cackle for 5 buff cochin bantams, 6 gold laced wyandottes, 6 cuckoo marans, and 10 black silkies. I'm beyond excited!

But, yeah. Pictures pictures pictures! And cuddle them as much as possible.

Oh, and do you have names picked out? That's one of the best parts!

not yet.. i'm trying to come up with some... i usually name my pets after gods and goddess from different places.. my to cats are Shakti and Freyja. i think im going to do that with farm/harvest/animal goddesses for them

Ohh, Demeter (the harvest), Manasa (snakes), Epona (equine), Rumina (dog) are some I like. Manasa is my favorite. ^-^

I like Khione (Goddess of Snow!) That would work for the Light Brahma.

We decided to go with Shakespearien names.. when the chicks get here we'll pick the best 5 out of these
