I was down in Rochester for my son's doctors appointment. After we were finished I went to the Smith's Farm store. They at one time had golden laced wyandottes and I wanted to get a couple. So I went in and heard the gentle chirps of the chicks..soothing to ones ears...until....
I looked into the water trough they had them in and it was JAMMED full of straight run chicks. I mean JAMMED!!
They were so packed in there I couldnt see the feeder. I found it under a pile of chicks and there were even more chicks inside the feeder trying to grab what crumbs there were...no food in there at all..but why should they feed them..only the chicks who were on the feeder could move enough to eat! The waterer was the same..the chicks next to it could turn and drink but some were standing in the water just for room!
I couldnt stand it anymore
I turned and walked away. Drove home and called the Humane society of fulton county who put me in touch with Animal control of Rochester. The guy wasnt in but they made a complaint against them and he will check it out in the morning. Its not like they cant find other troughs to put them in or buckets..or anything!!! They are a freakin farm store!
When will people learn chicks are living creatures that deserve the right to move around and not have to fight for food or water. The innocent peeps that seemed so peaceful turned into peeps that made my heart break each time I heard them.
