Just ran off a hawk!

I was reading a book one time by a Florida song writer who was talking about raising chickens. He said a convicted felon can't raise chickens cause he can't own a shotgun to keep the predators and hawks run off. It makes a lot of sense to me.

I have been remodeling the coop for the past few weeks, confining the girls to their run. A hawk was landing on the coop with me out there working. I ran a drop cord to the roof and plugged in the skill saw. I taped the trigger in the on position. Whenever the hawk would land, I would plug the other end of the cord into the house. After the second time the hawk landed, he hasn't been back.

The hawks love to hang around our area. My neighbor has a lot of bird feeders and they just pick off the small birds and mice like crazy. I don't want them getting my chicks though.

Now about the vultures they eat mostly carrion and are carriers of disease and bacteria because of this. I can't comprehend why anyone would want them hanging around!

Good arm. I need to get my wife a baseball. We have a bald Eagle hanging around. Every time we see him he gets close to the run. They haven't been out in a few days to free range.

I have 6 chickens and several ducks that free range...I live in the woods and have all kinds of predators from cougars, bob cats, coons skunks ,possums, hawks , snakes...ect... and the only thing I have lost was a young chicken my nephews dog pulled thru the fence... saw him do it just didn't get to it intime to save the chicken... I guess that I am lucky and I know that it could happen at anytime...
