Just realized this..

OMGoodness that would be cool but it is quite expensive! I guess I will just stick with my redneck candler!

Yeah! Too rich for my blood too... The first time I saw it was about a year or two ago... I believe it was right after it had come out... But the price them was about $700.... My jaw hit the floor!!!! WHY would you pay that much?? Ok, I understand we are all hatchaholics but, if you only have a few eggs, why spend all that money just to check if they are alive? If you have hundreds of eggs, are you REALLY going to take each egg, put it in this thing and check it?!?! I'm with you!

Just wondering . . . . if something is used on the Crack [candle wax, glue, etc] . . . how likely is that substance to posion the chic, or emit bad gases in the incubator that could effect the other eggs ?

I have no experience with this.

Candlewax or melted crayon is nontoxic so there is no risk to the chick or other eggs... Some people have used nail polish and crazyglue with success but it's not something I would do exactly because of the question you have but that's just my opinion and it has been shows to work when there is nothing else available...

I guess if you were working on some kind of project where you were trying to save an endangered species you would want to have one of these but for my back yard chickens I will stick with my $20 in materials candler.

To the OP I agree with using the candle wax more than using one of the other "chemical" ways to seal the egg but I have never had to do this yet so it is more of a gut feeling than from experience. It looks like deerman has used crazy glue with no ill effects.
