We just received our 4 chicks - shipped yesterday and them picked up at noon today. We have given them water boosted with vitamin/probiotics and set out food. 3 of them are doing great (eating & drinking) but one doesn't seem to want to do anything. We have tried dipping her beak in the water and even using a dropper. Is this typical? Should we be worried? Anything we should be doing? I am so worried - she is a lavender orpington. Thanks!

Try switching out the water to Sav A Chick, its a powder in a 3 pack that is under $2. They need electrolytes more right now than vitamins/probiotics. They probably have a little yolk left. Try the Sav a Chick maybe just on the one thats doing poorly, but it would be good for all of them. Dip the little ones beak in the water from time to time. Wet a little of your crumble and see if she will eat a little. How old are they? It is most likely shipping stress. Keep us posted.

Thanks - they were just shipped yesterday so I assume hatched Sunday or yesterday early and are just a day or two old. The other 3 chicks are moving in/out of heat lamp and come to check on the lavender from time to time. Hoping the little girl just needs some rest... :( Meyer sent a Vital Pack with them so will give some to her tonight... Fingers crossed. Thanks again!

So we lost our little Lavender Orpington on her 1st night. She is the only 1 out of 4 that died. We are super sad and I am hoping to find another one. We can only have 1 more chicken in our flock and I REALLY want a Lavender. Any suggestions for places locally for a Lavender chick in the San Francisco bay area? Do any mail order places ship just 1?
