Just rescued a hen

Hens can crow so that's not always true.

This bird is a cockerel. Hens lack pointed saddle and hackle feathers which this male definitely has.

That is a young buff Orpington rooster. I'll bet he was dumped because he started crowing. Your current rooster may never allow this male in his flock and there may be dramatic, drawn out fighting resulting in injuries, or there may be not much of anything and everyone will live okay together. You just need to decide if it's worth it to you to possibly disrupt your flock to bring in a strange rooster, and do you really need another rooster? He'd make a nice dinner.

Thanks everyone. So....clearly not a hen. I am fairly new to having chickens, but I am learning. Not sure what will happen now. We do have one small rather obnoxious silkie rooster already, but the silkie has not given him any trouble. The one we rescued seems much calmer. We have kept him in the coop with others successfully for the last two nights, but both days when we let everyone out he eventually leaves our property. We live on almost six acres. My chickens never leave our property and always go back to the coop at night after free ranging during the day. We have had to go looking for him and bring him back. Not sure how long I want to keep that up. Today he is no where to be seen. More fun.
