Just rescued a lot of chicks from chicken houses....Help, please

nice to see you petitesphinx !!!!!!
The advice from missPrissy and everybody else is gold!!! But with your photography skills, can you show them or your neighbors birds to us? I have never seen commercial meat birds......

Thank you, all, for your comments and suggestions.

I'll do my best to get out today and shoot a few pics. I've never seen the meat birds before and it's sad to see how they live. The average chicken house will home 30,000 little chickens and when they're 6 weeks or so, they go. But they never have fun, or space...and I know..I know..it's so we can eat, too. But it still hurts the little girl in me trying to save everything. I'll tell you one thing, I haven't been in the mood for fried chicken after visiting the chicken house..haha

We've been eating lotsa beef here! But if I saw how they commercially do beef...I'd probably lose my appetite for that, too.

So far, we lost about 10 of them.

but I we saved close to 50-70 birds and I knew all of them wouldn't make it. Some were very badly damaged, but I couldn't just leave them there. I still have that little girl flicker of hope in me that thinks.."Just maybe..maybe they'll live."

We will see. It's a good experiment for us; to watch and see how they adapt and if they'll make it.

I'll definitely keep ya'all posted!

Thank you for your encouragement. This endeavor has been kinda tough!

Here are a few photos. Siggh...these 2 are the roughest. Their legs are backwards. Not sure if they born this way or if it is damage.

They are fat, they eat/drink ok and 'seem' ok...they just hobble...

Oh My Gosh! Those poor birds!!!! How on earth could their legs have gotten turned around that way? Good for you to rescue them.

I'm no expert, but from the size of their legs I am thinking they are definitely meaties (cornish x). I'm sure the experts will weigh in.

God bless you for taking those poor creatures in. At the very least they may feel some peace in their short little lives. Good luck with their care, I can understand why you rescued them. It is a shameful aspect of the food industry to treat any animal as a non-feeling food source.

I wish everyone could see what unkind humans and industries have done to wondrous little beings like this - show your pictures to everyone and anyone who will look. And even those who say they won't (they will).
Heartbreaking.

And thank you again. JJ

Sorry for being away so long, with so many kids in public school here and a hubby who works at a hospital/university--it seems we're getting strep throat, the flu, a stomach bug or headlice every other week! Ha!!

We're finally getting over the second round of strep here. Uggg..

But I had to show you all the amazing progress of our meat chicken house rescue!

We lost a lot (sigggh) but at least they had a small amount of joy in their short lives. And the ones that made it are going so strong and are the sweetest little chickens we've ever seen.

They like to wait on our front porch and sleep near the cats, hang out with the goats & sheep and the others follow the ducks & geese around.

They'll run to you like a dog would and follow you around the farm and they're only 8 -10 ?(ish) weeks old. They free range now and I'm sure that helps work that extra weight off them.
