My rescues came from animal control that was where 11 came from 4 came from a lady who kept them in a 3x3 cage note 2 RIR and 2 Leghorns all 4 months old in this tiny thing
standing in about 6 inches of poop. They had cocci and were severely underweight,my guess is they probably would have died that week if I had not stepped in and took them when I did.
She had them outside in the "tractor" no water no food and my goodness I have a strong stomach smells and other stuff don't make me gag but when I raised the tractor to place them in
the carrier I about lost my breakfast the stench was overwhelming. I have had them for about a month now cocci is cleared up and they are starting to plump out and feathers are no
longer looking dull. What got me is she said "They were so cute as babies,I just had to have them." When she said that I had to bite my tongue in order to keep myself from saying
something. I have pictures just have to get them off my phone. The 11 from the animal shelter were underweight with a bad case of mites/lice. They are still in the quarantine pin mites are
gone but they are still putting weight on before I feel comfortable introducing them to the flock. The employees at the shelter told me that the chickens were put in the dead animal drop
box overnight. The shelter has my number and they usually call when chickens are either seized or dropped off. I looked for factory farms around here with no luck so I opted to go to the shelters and have had luck so far,I even take the roosters they have a spiffy bachelor pad set up.
