(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm definitely not new to chickens! I'm the crazy chicken lady that my friends and neighbors come to for advice.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We typically maintain a flock of roughly 30 chickens (and we also keep heritage turkeys).

(3) What breeds do you have?
Oh gosh, quite a few birds of varying breeds, some mixes, and crosses of all of them because I let them reproduce naturally. I casually breed for cold hardiness and egg colors. We've got black australorps, buff orpingtons, some black copper marans, white leghorn, welsummers, easter eggers, rosecomb rhode island reds, silverudd's blues, swedish flower; some mixed offspring of our past birds including gold-laced wyandotte, icelandic, and rosecomb colored dorking; and an assortment of easter eggers.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Fresh eggs and some self-reliance are major perks, plus I enjoy just sitting and watching "chicken TV."

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, hiking, casual gaming.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a married work-at-home (1 fulltime job, 1 part-time job, 1 small business) mom to small kids, a cat, and a couple of dogs. I feel like some sort of permanently exhausted pigeon living in the frozen north.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Google led me to BYC back when I was first considering getting into poultry. I decided to finally come out of hiding because I'm curious about my newest rooster's breeding possibilities. :)
