Hi there everyone!
My name is Jessica and I currently have 9 chickens (5 Sussex, 2 leg horns, an ee, and a Rhode Island Red)
I will be adding 15 new babies actually on Tuesday (4 ee, 3 silver laced Wyandotte, 3 barred rocks, and 5 assorted brown egg layers)
I am a stay at home mom to two wonderful boys and married to the hardest working man! I love coming to this site for answers. Can't wait to follow closer now! Hope ya'll had a happy New Years!!

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Good luck with your new additions! Are these babies? Chicks need to be at least 3 months of age before mixing with adult birds. If they are adults, make sure to mix them in slowly so the original flock doesn't attack them. The easiest way is to keep them caged or behind wire within the flock for a couple weeks. Everybody sees, nobody touches. After a couple weeks you can mix them in. Always add more food and water stations as the original flock can guard these areas and completely starve the new birds out.

Good luck and welcome to BYC! :)

thanks for the advice :)
We actually have a pretty big brooder that we are keeping them in for a couple months since it's still pretty cold here (northeren Illinois/ southern Wisconsin) we might actually be building a different coop for the new ones but we aren't 100% sure yet. I will definitely keep the wire/cage in mind because it would be easier and cheaper to not have to do another coop! Thank you

Thank you everyone! I feel at home already plus this will help with my husband since I have more people to talk chickens about He thinks I've gone mad haha

Hehehehe....yes, this is where we come to hide from our spouses and talk about chickens.
