Just set 36 Guineas! Adding 24+ more chicken eggs next monday

I just set 36 pearl guineas in my Little Giant
This will be my fist experience with guineas in any way shape or form
Im EXCITTTEDDDD

Monday I will be adding 12 ameraucanas and 12+ Black Australop(x)Silver Laced Wyandottes
I hope there is room for all that!


I bought a new springfield hygrometer/thermometer from walmart yesterday and a mercury one.
They have read about 2 degrees difference since last night (when I put the batteries in the hygro..

Which one should I believe? I guess as long as its between 99 and 101 im good?

Im having some minor temp problems. Im not running any AC or Heat right now and this morning was rather cool.
The room Im keeping the eggs in is shut and locked (keep dogs and children away from the incubator!) and it was real cold in there.
The temp dropped to like 95. I guess its better for it to drop early in development... right?

That's what I've always understood. It's better for them to cool down instead of cooking them

Oh, and don't get me started on thermometers!

At one point, I had 5 thermometers in my bator all reading differently! It's enough to drive a person crazy! I've been returning all of them including a very over priced reptile thermometer/hygrometer that was way wrong. I am using a digital meat thermometer with the probe inside of the bator. It seemed to be the most accurate, has all the options I liked, and I already owned it! It's reading pretty steady and only really changes if the room temp does (cool nights, very warm days) so I've been keeping a close eye on my temps. They have been staying steady between 100-102 (still air). Generally stays right at 101.

I candled last night and so far 3 of the Americana eggs were no good (werent even fertile) 2 of mine were cracked (they were rather older eggs that had been trough a lot though and hadnt even dev) but it looks like all the guineas are doing good.
..except one. I couldnt tell.. It is about half the size of all the other guinea eggs

I was having the same problem at night - it was getting really cool at night so I took an afghan and wrapped it around the outside of my bator before I went to bed - didn't cover the top and it kept the warm air in and the cooler night air from dropping my temps

Felt like I was tucking them in for the night

RR Im having the hardest time with temps..
Its my fault though.

My son busted out some cheap glass on the back door so now we have a hole in the door till we get it replaced. Its been cool in the mornings so it seeps into the kitchen where the incubator is. Ive waken up to temps about 95 degrees. So Ill bump it up.
Yesterday I was gone from about 1PM to 8PM and came home ti 104 degrees!

No telling how long it was that high but I know it didnt get any hotter than that. I candled a few eggs and still saw movement.
This morning the temps were at 96.
Poor chick chicks. They get cooled then hot then steady then cool..

I think at night before I go to bed Ill just start putting a blanket over the bator.. But I dont think it starts getting real cool here till aobut 5am..ish.

Sounds like you are having the same problems I had with my last batch. I was running an LG still air as well. It would be in the mid-90's so I would bump it up a bit. Came back to find it at 104 and on and on. I did get it to stabilize for awhile and thought I was good to go. Came back one evening to find it had shot up to 112 for some reason. That was the last straw for me. I have a 1588 on the way. It should be here on Wednesday. Can't wait to see what a good incubator will be like.
