I think that means it's a blackshoulder, mine from last year looked like that.

Haha Barrdwing, my hubby keeps cracking jokes about my pacing back and forth to the incubator and telling me that a watched egg doesn't pip.

Still nothing on the other eggs. Hopefully we get another chick to hatch so this one isn't all alone! He's doing great though...24 hours out of shell and is active, and looks to be nice and strong

<chuckle> Same here! It's been harder this time around because we really don't know when the eggs were due: they were all from "finished" nests where the hen had hatched out her own chicks, and left behind all the eggs that the others had been sneaking into the nest when her back was turned. They're all at different stages of development. So I spend a lot of time checking the incubator!

Hehe, I just might!

Barrdwing, wow that must be stressful, I hope they don't take long to hatch, I can't imagine the stress of not knowing, I bet you have a path worn in the floor from the pacing by the time they decide to hatch

I hope that last egg hatches for you poultryfan73

One of my 2 hatched (yay it was Fredward!) I was gone when he hatched and he had a scrape on the top of his beak, I'm not sure if it was from the hatcher or the eggshell, it doesn't look to bad so I hope he will be okay. Some of the goop from the egg had dried on his head and was keeping his eye open so he couldn't close it all the way. I wrapped him in a warm towel and dribbled warm water on his head until I could get it off.

My second egg (named Not Fredward

) is half zipped still, looks like he may be shrink wrapped from what I can see, not gonna mess with him for now. Since he can breath I figure I shouldn't mess with it, or should I?

That, and nose prints all over the viewing window!

I hope your little Not Fredward hatches OK overnight. I haven't had a shrink-wrapped chick yet, so I'm not sure at what point to interfere. If the beak is clear and it can breathe, then it seems like you could give it overnight. Good luck!
