Oh yea. Variety is the spice of life. Yea I saw that most were angled. I was having fun just trying to name a few that also might be found in raised boxes that manderins favor.

I will have to get a full list of all the species that are in that particular enclosure to help narrow it down. If it helps at all to identify any more potential species, the hen selected a site that was in the end of an old log that was relatively open for any and everyone to see. Possibilities could be endless!!!!

Update and questions??



So this is what we have left after candling last night.
Top row: 3 cinnamon teal and 1 ?? (2 of the cinnamon teal looked to be at 3-4 days when I set them)
Middle row: All 6 came from a Mandarin nest
Bottom row: (left to right) #1 ?, #2/#3 Mandarin nest, #4/#5 ?, #6 mandarin nest.

I did get a confirmation from the breeder that there are also wood ducks in the enclosure as well so the "mandarin" eggs may very well be wood ducks in the end. That's not to say there are not mandarin eggs, they are different sizes and colors so it looks to be a communal nest site. I do have a question for some of you that keep and hatch teal, I have read that they have an approximate incubation time of 24 days? If this is the case when I candled them before setting and they looked like they were already on their 3rd-4th day I will most likely see ducklings by this weekend from those 2 eggs is that correct?

Here is my math: 14 days of incubation
3-4 days of prior incubation
= 18-19 days of incubation total
leaving 4-6 days til hatch??

We all have fun guessing what eggs and ducklings are.Im thinking that in the middle row only the third and fifth egg are mandies . I think the others in that row are woodducks. Thats a good link Blue Creek gave you for general hatching times Also it never hurts to keep eggs you have doubt about when they first set at least a week longer. Nothing is set in stone on hatching. Even in hens nest they may be a day or two late. Seems to me its 2 weeks or longer after hatching time before there is a chance of one exploding on ya if youre worried about it.

I completely agree about keeping the eggs longer. When my Silver Wood Ducks eggs were supposed to hatch, I kept them a week longer because I would not want to kill a SWD duckling. Unfortunately all of my Silver Wood Ducklings had died.

One of the cinnamon teal eggs has piped and is zipping at this moment. I will get a pic up as soon as the little guy drys out. Other updates are all eggs except one of the other teal eggs are looking great! (it seems to have stopped developing). Thank you very much blue creek farm for the link. I came across that one as well but it is always nice to see what you guys use for a table on hatching. And thank you both for the advice about keeping the eggs a bit longer just to make sure. I will keep you guys posted and hopefully have a pic up by this afternoon!!!

Sorry they are blurry but I took them with my "dumb" phone. They both hatched under my serama broodies I use occasionally. Egg size was about the same. These are the cinnamon teal that were developed about 3-4 days already when I set the others. My first ducks ever!!!!!
