Just set up my Brinsea Octogon20 Advance incubator

Good Luck to those of you that are first timers! These bators make it a ton of fun..The problem becomes a big enough coop. If you build a small one, you are gonna be building another or adding on...

I just set 31 eggs in mine (yes it is cramped, but whats one to do haha), they were shipped eggs so i'm expecting to toss a few along the way.

But I was curious about the same thing, if people were trusting the digital. I haven't tested any other thermometers, been putting my faith in the digital one.

A little off topic, but does anyone use the cooling feature? I thought about it decided not to risk it this round, with the eggs being shipped and all.....they've gone through enough, haha.

DON'T get any other thermometers!!! All they do is FREAK YOU OUT!! Even the Brinsea manual warns against buying cheap thermometers, I would trust a $400 Brinsea all digital thermometers any day over the cheap $10 pet store ones. I did buy a pet store one in the beginning, and it read 2 degrees colder, I got myself all worked up for nothing. I took it back and I have not looked back since. TRUST BRINSEA digital built in display, I mean that is what we are paying for over the ECO modle right??

That's what I've been counting on, but with this being my first time hatching EVER, I've been second guessing everything

. Only on day 4 and I find myself peering in there every time I walk by. You just never know, I might get one of those miracle hatches

This is my first time EVER also and I am on day 10. At day 7 I saw them moving in the egg when I canceled and since then I have calmed down. Nothing I can do except make sure there is water in the incubator and just wait to see what happens. I made a thread about my first hatch ever I am doing right now. I have photos and even links to videos I made. Check it out:

I might make a thread also, I've been keeping a diary...sort of, and taking pictures. The more experiences out there the better right?

LeviS, I used the cooling feature on 2 hatches so far and great hatch results. My eggs were not shipped though.

And my next hatch I will be trying it at 99.5 as it reads on the Brinsea. I did my last hatch at 100.5 because my other glass thermometer I bought from Brinsea, and made by Brinsea, was reading 2 degrees cooler than the one of my incubator. But my hatch was almost a day early, so a nice person on this thread suggested I should just use what the incubator says next time.

Good luck with your first hatch! I am so enjoying my 2 batches of chicks. Cannot wait until summer to do another hatch. I am trying to control myself a bit you see!
