HI,
I'm from southern Alabama, was raised around chickens but has been about 30 years since have been around them. My husband has converted part of the barn, and fenced off part of field for coop and run, and have bought all feeders, waterers and all. I have a couple different people in line to buy young chickens from, and am very excited. Plan on getting rhode island reds, barred rocks, orpington buffs, and maybe some others. We are going later this week to look. They are all around 12 - 15 weeks age, and I do not plan on getting any roosters at this time. I'm sure will be bugging everyone with lots of questions!!

Welcome to BYC, from California! You're going to love the various forums. The two most important things I like about BYC are the things you can learn so you don't make expensive mistakes, and the things you can learn to fix the mistakes you made before you checked BYC first....

The very best thing about BYC is its members. They are helpful, informative, supportive, and frequently very funny. I have made many friends "I've never met" as well as some really good, friends I HAVE met.

Glad you joined us!

Oh, I remember the good ole days when I was getting ready for the first chicks... I went totally overboard. I've never had a pet besides fish before (they died) so I was determined to do it right

Homemade feeders, waterers, cardboard brooder, the whole lot. Turned out most of the stuff either failed or wasn't needed. We ended up replacing the waterer I'd worked so hard on with a chipped ceramic bowl. I was 12 at the time

The fellow BYCers are great people. Something chickens do to you, I guess... we can band together and defend our birds from nosy pryers

Welcome to BYC. You might consider purchasing chickens from one place. Mixing birds from different flocks isnt a good idea. It's possible a disease/parasites could be introduced from one source to another within your chickens. Practice biosecurity. Good luck.
