Hi all thanks for the ideas for the coop the girls seem to love it no eggs yet but early days
two of the girls will eat out of my hand but they will not let me pick them up . Any tips or should I just give it time only had them 2 weeks so far

You've got beautiful hens! Love the blue one... I found that most fully grown chickens don't like being picked up, even if they are tame and used to it. What you can try instead is encourage them to sit on your lap. But give them time, it's early days still :-)

Chicken wire just keeps in chickens doesn't keep out any predators. YOu need some hardware cloth 1/2" openings and at least 18" tall to put inside,around the chicken wire so preds like raccoons can't reach in and eat off a leg or two, or try and pull a chicken thru the bars. If you have a deer mesh across the top it will keep hawks out.
 
Thanks for that but luckily we only have foxes in the uk and the birds are lock in at night
 
We have a fox den in our backyard - I know they can dig, they can climb, and the ones we see are out any time of the time. They are not rabid they are just opportunist and plan their days around when they know pickings are easy - like garbage pick up day, or when someone is feeding their outside cat or dog etc. They are very determined and smart as a whip.
