I introduced grit 2 days ago to my 1-2 week olds. I gave them broken up dead meal worms this morning...and EUPHORIA! They would grab one, run to the other end of the brooder and peck those suckers apart! They hated hard boiled egg, and yogurt..but meal worms...JACKPOT! I only gave them about 2 a piece, but since then they are a lot more enthusiastic about greeting me

You might try scrambled egg instead. I had a cracked egg the other day so decided to cook it up for the chooks. I have two little 3-week-old chicks in a brooder, so I gave them a piece as well, about 1 sq inch worth. It was still warm when I put it in there. One of them ran over, pecked at it, then jumped back in surprise at the heat. They both then stood there and stared at it intently for several minutes to see what it would do next. When it didn't show any signs of moving, they decided to attack it themselves and then great excitement ensued as each would grab the whole piece and run all over the brooder desperately looking for a private place to eat it.

I love watching them with the meal worms. Sooooo funny! Watching them play keep away..and pulling the little suckers apart...

My chickens LOVE to see me walk in with the container... It definitey turns in to chicken heaven in there!

Wow, you break your mealworms apart? I just buy the small ones and give 'em whole to my chicks once they are at least 2 weeks old.

It's some of the most fun to have with chicks in the brooder. Plus, I become The Most Wonderful Big Person In The Universe that way. Before mealworms, I was just that lady who disturbs them, but nice that she adds food to the feeder thing. Big hands from the sky, scary.

After mealworms, I'm IT.

I break the bigger ones up because I have what seems to be the world's smallest Polish in with the bigger chicks. The Polish loves them the most though. Maybe I'll try whole.

Haha, I definintely was just the lady who disturbs them until I started adding treats. Course if I walk in without any I'm still jsut disturbing them. I put my hand in, they eye it looking for treats, if there arent any, they just walk away...

I guess I have spoiled fuzzy wuzzys.

I gave my 3 weekers dried mealworms yesterday for the first time, too. It was hysterical! I love watching them run around the brooder frantically figuring out what to do the worm.

Mealworms gross me out, though.

After She Who Has Treats, I became She Who Is Human Jungle Gym...by 2-3 weeks they would all take turns trying to jump the highest on my arm as it was in the brooder. When one gained the higher position, another would try to outdo that chick and go 3 inches higher:P Funny little creatures, aren't they?

They are the funniest! I tried meal worms to take the pecking focus off of my poor freckles!
