They sound delicious though...

I steam them as well. I remove most of the stem and trim the petals so the 'choke looks pretty. Then I dice up some garlic and melt some butter (add salt if not using salted butter), mix together, and pour a little over each artichoke making sure that the garlic gets in between the petals, steam until I can pull a petal from near the base quite easily. I then use the leftover garlic and butter, add freshly ground black pepper, some cayenne, and yumm...

There was a good sale this spring on artichokes at Trader Joes. It was 99 cents for each organic artichoke, which is a 'steal.'

99 cents! Wow, that is a bargain!

They're selling for $5 each at my local Woolies!

I steam mine until tender and then I make a dipping sauce using real butter, minced garlic and lemon juice. I dip each petal in and eat. We can go through three our four as a family if we all sit down together to eat they are totally delish

Nom nom nom

love them artichokes!! I steam mine, run the leaves thru my teeth to get the nommy meat off it, then when I get to the choke, I cut that off and discard that hairy bit, and enjoy the heart. all dipped in melted butter.

Its heaven I tell you HEAVEN!!!

Have to be fresh tho... canned is just wrong.

I highly reccomend growing them. It's pretty easy and nearly no waste because the stem is so tender the outside can be cut with a dull spoon. Try steaming, then cut them lengthwise. Brush with melted butter that has finely diced fresh garlic and fresh lemon juice/zest, olive oil and sea salt. Grill just until the cut side starts to brown. Use the left over butter for dipping. If fresh, you can eat the stem, it should nearly melt in your mouth. This is the most requested veggie when I have company. I make them go choose and cut off their own artichokes.

i take hole artichokes and rub them down with EVOO and s&p, grill them over charcol till they are NICE and black almost, you want a really GOOD grilling on them, then just start at the bottom and peel the leaves off, and eat the base, until you get to the heart(another reason to really get it cooked, so the heart is nice and juicy)
