I wanted to post pictures of my chicks to verify what they are. Most are about 6 weeks except what was reported to be the Buff Orp, which is only about 4 wks. Your help in verifying is appreciated. I'll title the breed I was told they are - all are supposed to be hens.

Red Star (Sex Link)

Buff Orp (Small one in the middle - 4 wks)

RIR

RIR, BR, Buff Orp (tried to get the BR to id)

Are those accurate from what you can tell?

Thanks all for your help and responses. I guess I just got the Buff Orp and Red Star reversed in my memory. As I'm a newbie, I'm obviously not familiar with how to tell the chick's gender. Any tips on how I can verify the Buff Orp's gender. Like maybe any simple anatomical clues?

I'm going by the size of his comb. I look for big Combs and large feet and legs on young chicks for roosters but it's not always right. As they grow you will notice it more. I sometimes hold them upside down by the legs and if they lay straight down it's a rooster and if the fly up toward your hand it's a pullet. Don't worry, it won't hurt them, I would never do anything to hurt a animal. Again, it's not 100%. Just old fashion methods. Good luck!!

Pointy hackle feathers, bigger, redder comb (compared to the others) dominant personality, and saddle feathers longer, also the start of spurs, but more of the others.

Thanks to the both of you. One more question for chickencrazy429: when I've taken the chicks outside (during the few warmer days) the BO & RIR will sometimes fight; would that be an indication that maybe the RIR is also a male? Or not necessarily since they are still young and they're maybe just figuring out the pecking order? Any help and tips are appreciated.
