I noticed last week that every woman in my family has fresh iced tea in a Mt. olive pickle jar available at all times. I have no idea when the custom started but for as long as I can remember my Grandma used Mt.olive pickle jars ( 1 gallon jars ) for beverages.

When I make my tea I use a bag of Lipton and I boil it in hot water for about 5 minutes and add about 1 cup of sugar for a gallon. I have to do this everyday, sometimes twice. We really like our iced tea. My aunts add so much sugar I have to dilute their tea with water or unsweet tea. I am suprised they aren't all diabetic and toothless.

So how do ya'll make your tea and what do you keep it in? Or if you re not tea drinkers what do you drink?

Boil 2 LIPTON teabags in a 4 cup measuring cup in the microwave for 5 minutes. Let it steppe 5 minutes, and then pour it over 2/3 cup of sugar. Add cold water...in a plastic Tea Pitcher that was a high class Dollar General purchase about a thousand years ago. It's only good tea if the pitcher is tea stained ya know

We like our ice tea, but I use our 1/2 gallon pickle jars to put up pickles every year. If I didn't, I'd have an insurrection on my hands.

What we use to make our iced tea with is Market Spice Tea, from Pike Street Market in Seattle...it is just amazing hot or cold...

For sipping, I prefer a good Sour Mash Whiskey.

I use a Mr Coffee Iced Tea brewer at least 3 times a week in winter and at least once a day in summer.

Market Spice Tea is the best. My friend used to sell it in her retail shop.

There's only one way to make southern-style sweet tea IMO. Heat water in a 2 qt. pot until bubbles are just starting to rise to the surface. NEVER BOIL. Boiling makes tea bitter. Once it bubbles, shut off the heat and add 4 family sized tea bags. I prefer Luzianne. Lipton is for hot tea. Steep for half an hour or longer. Pour into a gallon pitcher that's already had the sugar added to it and stir to completely disolve the sugar before adding cool water to make a gallon. Allow to come to room temperature before refrigerating.
DH likes sickeningly sweet tea, so I use almost 2 cups of sugar to make his. I stopped drinking sweet tea a couple of years ago, so now I make mine the same way, just minus the sugar.
Drink in a mason jar.
