My husband and I are new to the forum and would like to say Hi! to all of the chicken fans out there. We have a growing Barred Rock flock and have started getting into Rouen ducks. Just hatched out a beautiful start of 4 ducklings....Delta, Dawn, Dudley, and Doris. Would love to add more....they are just too beautiful!

I've had both of these breeds myself in the past. A flock of barred rocks and a flock of Rouen ducks is hard to beat when it comes to beauty. I found that my Rouens were decent setters and mothers as well, even though most hatcheries, etc. rate the breed as fair in this respect. Actually I found that most breeds of ducks, even generally non-broody ones, will set and hatch if given a quiet place where they can get away from the rest of the flock where they're not disturbed. Right now my chicken flock consists of about 30 hens, mostly RRRs and red or buff sex-links, black sex-links, and a few black minorcas (I ordered the brown egg layer special from McMuuray Hatchery and obviously the bleck minorcas were a mistake), and two mixed-breed roosters, and about 17 chicks of various ages! Black and red sex-links aren't supposed to set but nobody told them! I don't have any ducks right now, but I do have 4 Pilgrim geese I got this past May from Country Hatchery.

Thanks everybody. I have actually been coming to this site ever since we decided to start raising chickens and ducks. My husband got his coop ideas from this site. We have learned so much from this site by just reading it that I thought it was time to join. This is actually our first forum.......anything for our girls.
