Just wondering about the roos...

I personally am not new with chickens and hens, but this year we decided to keep one of the roos we ended up with...

I was just wondering when they grow sexually mature and about how often do eggs get fertilized? We do want chicks, but not too many, so I was wondering if there is a way to control how often they mate? He hasn't yet taken a fancy to any one hen, so we're still off the hook for a little while.. He is about 6 and a half months old, and a pretty White Cochin.. We're still not sure if he's a banty or a standard size, though, as he seems to be in between.

You're not going to get chicks unless the egg is incubated. You'll want to collect eggs daily or more, anyway, so no problem.

Sorry... I would say only by seperating him from the flock.

I don't know why it would matter though... i'd say let them mate all they want
