just wondering

I have a dumb question... Could anyone tell me when a pullet officially becomes a hen and when a cockerel becomes a rooster? Thanks.

I always thought a pullet became a hen when she layed her first egg. I am not real sure though that I'm accurate. When they're a year old sounds logical too.

Pullet = female chicken under one year of age.
Hen = female chicken one year old or older.
Cockerel = male chicken under one year of age.
Rooster = male chicken one year old or older.
