the sound a racoon makes when he climbs your utilities pole and hits the fuse holder - at 6 am.

We woke up wondering what in the heck happened to our power. The utility company guy walked straight to the pole and said, 'Yup, there he is!' and there he was. A big old buck coon. Didn't even make it to the ground.

Those fuses are loud aren't they?

When I worked as a power linesman we'd get calls on the sunniest of days with people telling us that "lightning hit near the house and then the power went out". It was typically a squirrel getting into the works and blowing the fuse.

If it happens often ask them to put a squirrel guard on the pole. It is just a pole wrap of black plastic that the animals can't climb.

Power Guy (translated as Our Hero), took a cool long hook and cut all the branches around the pole, so I am hoping we won't have a repeat.

Sheesh. What a way to go. At least it's quick.
