When I came in the house yesterday from a couple hours work outside, Kane came running to me but he was limping badly. My DH was asleep and has no clue as to how he might have gotten hurt. It could be that something happened when he was wrasslin' with his brother.

He has a very painful right rear paw. It's definitely the paw, not the leg or hip. Poor thing likes to be by my side at all times, but finally gave up and went to his crate early.

This morning I told DH that if it wasn't better by tomorrow that I think we need to take him to the vet. DH's response was that we need to give it a few more days. I'm afraid a few more days and permanent damage may set in.

If this was Jax, DH's dog, that was hurt he would have already been to the vet; even if it is the weekend.

DH and I rarely RARELY argue. I can't remember the last time we did; I think it was back in 2007. I feel an argument brewing. This is my baby boy's wellbeing we are talking about.

The vet can at least give him something for pain even if it is just a sprain or something. I'm not a rush to the Dr./Vet kind of person myself, but why not take him when he is in obvious pain tomorrow when its open and keep him on crate rest until then.

Just load him in the car and take him.... follow your gut instinct, if he needs to go in, then he needs to go in...
DH will get over it...

I can certainly understand your concern.

Sit on the floor with him and give his hurt paw a really, really good go over - use a flashlight to see well between his toes and between his pads. Could be something stuck or that he has cut himself. Check his nails also - our BC last year tore the top off of one of her nails -

- hurt her foot but she was fine after a bit.

Is his paw swollen?

You can give him a couple plain asprin to help him with pain - but be extra careful to keep him confined, so he cannot hurt himself further.

I agree. Tomorrow will be good. Emergency vet service on a Sunday will eat you alive.
I know how much you love your dogs. And I have done the same thing.
oh,...have we done the very same thing...you know that definition of insanity? Well, when the boy or dogs are hurt we keep jumping the gun.
Give him until morning, then load him up and take him to the vet.
Do you have some buffered aspirin?
Is it swelling? would an ice pack or a heating pad help?
Good luck. poor puppy, poor grity.

We checked it over good last night. Couldn't find anything, other than swelling.

Does anyone know the safe amount of aspirin to give a 110 lb. dog?

Yes, if you can..wait till tomorrow...
You DONT wanna pay emergency Sunday vet fees...

I would give the boy an arthritis strength aspirin with a tums morning and night for a couple of days to see if it helps.

If he had really gotten hurt badly, would he have cried and woken up DH? Or is he the strong silent type and would just take it quietly? Trying to cage how bad he might be hurt.

I have a sheet. I'll go get it.

The vet sheet says; buffered aspirin30 pounds or more: for pain relief 1 adult tablet orally 1-2 times a day.
you can use ketoprofen 12.5 mg tabs if there are NO kidney problems.

I would still offer some bread or food with the buffered aspirin.

Do not use acetaminophen, ibuprofen or naproxin.
