KATHYINMO to the Nursery STAT!!!!!results post 36 and 38

Great pics. I can't wait for mine to start hatching. I have to wait until the 31st. Could we trade that way I don't have to wait anymore?

Sounds like they are all very anxious to join the world, full of vigor! I don't remember my other lavenders hatching early. The ones I just hatched last weekend were hatched exactly on day 21.

Pictures, pictures, pictures! <<< chanting >>> pictures, pictures, pictures!

I hatched these on July 10th, from my Lavender pen. This is my project pen. I have Lavender rooster over Lavender girls, 1 Black Orp (now out of the pen), and 3 Light Sussex girls. More to hatch this weekend.

Some of these are the Lavender over Light Sussex chicks. They hatch out black. I will mate them together and the next generation will have some Coronation pullets. Coronation mutt pullets (not pure Coronation Sussex, I know)...

They are taking longer to dry cause it's just so hot here! The humidity has been crazy!!!

I'll move them out of the incubator into the brooder this afternoon.

I did check all the other eggs. I had the following results:
1 No development
1 blood ring
1 quit around day 7 (candling)
1 quit shortly after day 7
21675_jody_chicks_012.jpg

2 looked to have quit before day 18. Lots of fluid not fully developed
21675_jody_chicks_011.jpg

4 looked like they quit about day 18. All four have unabsorbed yolk sacs

And this little guy pipped and then gave up. Don't know why. I never quite understand why they give up.

So of 23 eggs to have 12 alive after a two day drive from Eastern Pa to Central Ky in late June temps, I think it's not so bad. I do't believe the hatch would have been as good if they had to suffer the PO.

I know. They came so early I figured we'd have a longer hatch with more babies. I'm happy for what hatched, though. 6 of each!!
