Kaye's free range turkey thread

One of the hens likes to peck at Jake's wattles. Has anyone else ever seen this?? He seems to like it. It's kinda like a grooming thing. I'm curious bc I thought it was odd. Cute, but odd.

This may have been answered already on this thread but I've seen my turkeys doing that too! Now that they are older they don't as much. IDK what the deal is.

I think she's trying to groom him. In a very different way. He liked it and made little purring noises while she did it. I'm not really sure though, I mean, she could be flirting in a very turkey sort of way. Lol. Who knows

I have seen my hens peck at the toms faces too. I've also seen them pull feathers off them at times too. Only the turkey knows why.

This crazy changing Alabama weather has made my turkeys start freaking out. I have hens strutting (even drumming) and gobbling. My poults have me all confused. One keeps strutting and has even gobbled a couple times. Maybe it's just because of the weather and it's still a hen. I hope so, but I'm not sure

My hens will sometimes display but they never gobble, if it's a true gobble than it's probably a Tom. Hens can lengthen their snood a bit too but nothing like the toms can.

As @oldhenlikesdogs said, hens don't gobble. They are also not capable of drumming because they don't have the same type of air sac that toms have.

If your turkey is drumming and gobbling, it is a tom. Do not mistake a trill for a gobble.

I must have a hen that has tom air sacks. I mean, I don't want to be straight rude, but she is indeed a hen. A 3 year old hen. She lays eggs. She is no doubt a hen. I'm sorry, but you are obviously wrong. I have a hen who gobbled. I KNOW she is a hen. I also witnessed her gobble twice now. I know what a trill sounds like. My poult that gobbled is more than likely a tom, but the hen is a hen. I will post a picture of her to show she is a hen. I have to get some of the little tom as well....
please don't think I am trying to be rude, because I'm not. I just know she is a hen. And I have heard and have seen her gobble
