I wonder just how bad this (likely) fox is at hunting. This hen is tiny (Leghorn) friendly and slow going. Yet she got free and nobody else was hurt.

But guess what? Parents didn't put the dogs out again!!! They KNOW the dog's jobs are to guard to chickens yet they don't put them out when the chickens are out. :barnie
I think I've seen fox prints once, but coon prints are way more frequent. The coon took three ducks (one was caged and being petsat) and two chickens (one was caged) in the four years I've had poultry.
The caged birds were in mediocre cages though, so in the coop they are safe.
The caught chicken was laying an egg under a tree at night, so that makes sense. I'll bet the ducks were misbehaving too.
So the chickens and ducks are pretty safe free ranging, other than the kestral that took a pullet. But she was really, really tiny.

Foxes and Coyotes make up the vast majority of predators here. I need a gun bad enough for both of them. I'm allowed to kill them because they kill my livestock.
