Aussies are more bullheaded, know it all's, that don't always listen, but are always close. They may follow a command but they will add their personal twist to it. They can be comical goofs.

Border collies do follow commands well and they actually seem to love to follow them, but they don't have a need to always follow you. They do need a job, or they will find their own job.

My border collie would sleep in another room from us. Aussies will follow you room to room, and they always sleep in our bedroom with us. With an Aussie you are never alone.

Oh and I didn't watch the whole first video yet, just the beginning. I will later when husband goes to bed.

Hmmm, Aussies do sound like my style dog with how you describe them. Do they at least mostly follow the commands? Sick of super stubborn dogs that only listen when they want lol

But with how you described them, it kind of sounds like Aussies are like the class clowns, whereas Border Collies are more the straight A student, teacher's pet type? :lau

I do love a goofy dog but also want one that can listen and possibly do agility or obedience or tricks or something.

Aussies seem more in tune with or concerned about their person? Which I do like.

That's okay! It's definitely a long one lol

I highly recommend two books on Aussies that may help your decision.

They really have some good descriptions of the breed that may help. Of course every dog is an individual, but most in a breed share many of the same characteristics. I think I got my books at Petco, or it could have been Amazon.

I constantly read they are clowns. I can attest that they have a sense of humor and like to make you laugh if they can. They are sensitive to your moods, and will try to appease you with toys or just a smile. I say no more but I'm probably gonna get suckered in again.

Aussies also have a bit of a protective streak that my border collie did not, so that's a bit of an added bonus for someone like me that is alone a lot.

My big buffoon of an Aussie, Sunny, is currently tossing the blankets and dog bed in the air with her nose because her bedtime cookies are late and she's trying to attract my attention.

Now she's rolling on her side making bear noises. She does make things interesting. The border collie would just keep bringing me a tennis ball until we hid it.

Thanks, I'll have to get those books!

And wow she sure sounds like a clown! Lol a dog that makes me laugh and is sensitive to moods sounds ideal yet also has enough energy and drive to train. Although Labs and Goldens make me laugh too and Goldens in particular are sensitive.

The protective thing I go back and forth on whether it's a good thing or not. Too protective and it could be a liability but if I'm ever walking or hiking alone it sounds like a good thing. Especially if I ever move out. Right now I'm almost never alone and when I am I have Gator but if I move out that could come in handy. Cause a Lab or Golden like likely just kiss the attacker or hold the burglars flashlight, show him the valuables, drive the getaway car lol as long as he got some pats or a ball or steak for it :lau

I guess he is going slower, he's almost walking lol also it kind of seems to me like the Aussie is like waiting for a command? Saw it in another Aussie agility video too whereas the BC seems to already know the course and is just like get out of my way lol or at least... just does it. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I mean, they both made it to Nationals and won. Different styles I guess.

I definitely would take the Aussie out of that pair. Did you notice how nuts the border collie was for his ball toy. The Aussie just wanted his human.

Plus how fast can you run. :lau I couldn't keep up with the border collie.

Aussies are very sensitive. They don't take harsh treatment. They are very similar to a golden retriever in that aspect.

That is very true. That BC was definitely hyper focused on that toy. But it's also a high excitement/high arousal environment and she looked like she was purposely trying to engage him and get him crazy to get hyped for the run, the Aussie owner didn't appear to have a toy. It would be interesting to see what the Aussie would do in that same environment with a toy in front of him. I bet he would want to play too. Although it would probably be different style play, the Aussie would probably want to engage with the human and play with the human while that BC appeared to have laser focus on the toy. Didn't even look up at the human when he let go! Just laser focus until he got it back lol

And that is very true. :lau I doubt I would be able to catch a BC if it got loose. Not that I'd be able to catch an Aussie either lol

Aw they sound sweet

Headstrong also has a litter now ready in October AND. a 10 month old black tri female, my dream Aussie. :love

I've been looking a lot at colors lately and I used to think I wanted a merle and they are pretty but idk, I've decided I'm like too OCD for it lol I don't like the random splotchy look :lau the tris are so neat and clean looking. And I don't like reds. I would love a black tri. But of course, I just want the best match
