Keel Trouble/Impacted Crop

The vet says she suspects crop impaction, but I will need to bring her in to be sure. My goose book, Domestic Geese, suggested giving water diluted baking soda 3 times a day, so Mel is back in the garage getting special attention. It looks like we'll be able to see the vet tomorrow, so we'll know for sure then.
Carrying her in, I noticed that while she weighs the same, she has become very skinny. She is still eating alright, although last night became upset with me for putting the food dish on the floor of the run instead of right in front of her, up in their shed. I guess she has become accustomed to special treatment.

When they have an impaction they eat still but it doesn't go anywhere so they keep filling the crop but the body loses weight. I hope the vet can help her. when I had a chicken with a crop impaction I was given direction using Ducolax worked real well. Let us know what the vet says and does please.

Losing weight is always a bad sign hopefully the vet can do something quickly.

At the vets right now, and it is a definite crop impaction, x-rays show it's but not caused by hardware disease. The vet expects amyloidosis, which is lethal, and the only hopeful option is to clean out the crop, insert a feeding tube, deworming, and hope she fully recovers. $1.5k. The other option is euthanasia.

Well, I researched crop impaction and called Mr. Holderread, and apparently it's very easy for Dewlap Toulouse to get impacted. They have a more susceptible digestive systems than other breeds. I decided to go for treatment, and just answered a call from the vet saying they weren't able to massage/pump it out, and need to do surgery. So, no good news yet.

Surgery goodness, Hope they can get this out and not cost you an arm and leg.

Wow I really hope it will work out. Please don't get stressed!!!!
Because it is very stressing and frustrating. I don't like the way that she has gone lighter.
Please keep us updated

I've been updated by the vet, and she removed about five handfuls of matted grass from the crop/stomach. Dr. inserted a feeding tube, sewed my goose up, and she woke up fine. I think they're still going to do a fecal test for worms, but tomorrow I take her home. I will have to feed her by tube for a few weeks to allow the crop time to heal, but Vet said her blood tests looked really good, and things look hopeful. :)
