So are we allowed to keep either of the words then? I thought I had to keep the 2nd word each time - I'm easily confused

To play correctly, a word should be used twice. And then a new word. Like so:
hard knocks
opportunity knocks
(now knocks has been used twice) so:
lost opportunity
(even though I changed the first word, it's because knocks had been already 'played out'.
So then you should use a new word since opportunity is now used twice.
And then use the new word:
lost cause
BUT, I just go along with whatever, because I hate being the one to say, "You're not playing right."

Thanks for explaining - I just jumped in without even checking how to play I'm so sorry i've not been playing right I'm used to being forced to always use the 2nd word as the first word adn so on! I'll have to concentrate now to play!

The order doesn't ever matter, it's basically just using the newest word again. I'm just minutes away from leaving work. LOL

And really, it's a game, it's about having fun, so I don't worry too much about first word, second word, new word. etc. I just log on to have a break from work stuff. It's all good.
