Keep ducks out of pool

Went out of town, had a "sitter" - now they know and love the pool.

A tarp is too much $. I'm thinking balloons filled with water and air might scare them floating. Any other ideas?

I think as scared they can be of anything new that would probably keep them out.

Simple chicken wire fence around the pool to block them? Might not be any cheaper than the tarp, though. Anything you have lying around you could make a simple fence out of? I think they'd just play with the balloons. At least, my ducks would.

I second the chicken wire idea, maybe you could get lucky and find some on craigslist if $ is an issue. Sorry to hear about the sitter letting them go exploring like that!
