Keep your eggs gathered daily or your layers will go broody.

Last year all 19 of my Silver Gray Dorking hens went broody at the same time.
I was on vacation five days and couldnt find anyone to gather my eggs,

I do get lazy on occasion in the winter time, and sometimes I skip a day collecting......One time, I didn't collect the bantam eggs for a week, and I had a broody.....There might be something to that.....LOL
