thinking about getting tufted buffs 2 pairs (way too cute) and wanting a few pairs of pilgrims (because so easy to tell the sex)
but wanting to keep them from interbreeding so if I kept them together but separated them in breeding season would that work or would I always need to keep them separated?
any advise ?

You would only have to keep them separated during breeding season (mid-winter through early summer) for the first few years. Geese do take on mates so once they are paired with another there shouldn't be any problems with them crossing as long as you have equal numbers of boys and girls.

I had wondered the same thing...but it seem too difficult. I couldn't divide my pond...so I'll just have to stick with one breed.

Too good! what happens when a Pilgrim goose falls in love with that big BUFF gander? Pun intended. Will you have the will to seperate a bonded Pair and risk that neither reproduces that year. You can try but be aware of pair formation and break up bad matches long before mating time so they have a chance to bond within their own breed.

What would happen if they crossed? Would you get pretty, buff geese that were easy to sex?

Just curious because I'm debating between these two breeds as well. Cuz the buffs are just so pretty (I know, that's a dumb reason

) but I sure like the idea of the easy sexing.
