Keeping a coop cool. How do I do this?

I have 4 windows in the coop but the chickens still seem to be warm. Is there a way to fix this?

You could try putting a fan in one of the windows. Last year thats what we did.

I parked my coop under some trees for the summer and all my windows face north. I also insulated the coop walls and roof.

I thought of an idea for my coop that I will be building in the near future. You could make a small wire box/cage and put in in a corner or even in the middle of the coop. Then you can put ice packs or anything else cool in the cage. Make sure its wire 1. so that cold air gets out and 2. so that the chickens could lay next to it if they get to hot. Have some way to open so you can change the ice or cooling object

Try cutting 2 holes out on 2 different sides and put up some chicken wire or hardware cloth to cover the holes so they get some ventilation. If you did that on 2 oppisite sides you may get a crossbreeze going through there to cool them off and save the wood you cut out and attatch them with hinges so you could close them up in the winter so they dont get too cold.

I found that despite having windows/openings in our coops, not enough breeze and cooling actually reached the chickens until we added ventilation openings near the floor. The wire shelves from an old refrigerator are a sturdy and cheap way to predator-proof the openings (Painting the wire black makes it easier to see into the coop, if you'd like to).

I came up with putting a milk jug and pop bottle full of water inside a kitty litter pail to keep them clean. I've only used this method for one day and never saw any chickens sitting by it, but I did happen to get twice as many eggs as the day before....

I opened a large window opposite my other large windows for the cross breeze mentioned above. I also insulated my coop with heavy cardboard. I put ice in my waterer on real hot days. I do this for the dogs also. Maybe extra ventilation at the top of the coop, as heat moves up?
