I live in the burbs too! Every town has their own laws and limitations about chicken keeping... but some of us "fly under the radar." Do you have chickens yet, or still making plans? There's tons of information here and plenty of opinions to give you a nice round scope of things. Best wishes!

I live in Austin, right in the heart of the city. Check your city ordinances. They vary from city to city.

Here in Austin we can have roosters as long as no one complains about the noise. We have quite a few roos in the hood. We have a 6 chicken max but there are back yard meat farmers in parts of the city that stash a LOT of chickens in their back yards and farm them year round.
