Keeping A Meat Bird Breading Pair

I have 7 1/2 month old McMurray “broiler” Delaware’s.

Kept back 12 pullets and 3 cockerals. The pullets had/have a lot more issues with odd eggs than other breeds I’ve had.

Mostly blood spots in the eggs. Some with “meat” early on and a quite a few mishappen.

Aggressive eaters. Very human friendly.

Decent growers.

Hi Fellow N.FL chicken tender Here and in the pic you will see that on the left are two of the jumbo eggs we are getting daily from our hatchery (Cornish cross) hens. We lost the two roosters to coyotes and are now moving their tractor into the main run with the Easter egger rooster. We will be hatching some of these eggs soon in the hopes of creating a prolific jumbo blue egg layer that can be a dual purpose breed.

Are they regular or double yolkers? I got a LOT of double yoked eggs from my cornish x hen. Good luck with your project, sounds interesting!

All Have been Single yolks this far! We have not had many double yolk eggs at all With any of our birds and we have or had 11 different breeds laying. ( that is to explain that we were really expecting many double Yorkers from new layers etc… but no, we have gotten more fairy eggs than double yolks.

You are lucky, I just made an omelet with 4 Cornish X/Breese cross eggs and they were all double yolk. I am going to do a search online to see if I can do anything about that.

Wow that was an interesting video not that it really gave any tips but the cracking of so many double tolled eggs was pretty crazy🥚🥚! I will say the explanation of the yolk ( sitting by) the oviduct and getting encapsulated with the next one makes me wonder if yours are not getting the light mine get? The light triggers laying so reasonably could keep the assembly line moving? I live in Macclenny which is north Florida so we get lots of sun.

I live in Hawaii, they get a lot of sun. I think its because they are young and just started laying or it could be genetic.

Yeah, maybe their could be different Cornish crosses, or just the creation of differences between flocks that are selectively evolved by choice of breeders for reproduction.
At least some of them are laying single yolk eggs, I got 2 regular eggs and 2 double yolkers today.. I can tell if its a double yolk egg, just by looking at it.
