Keeping and Raising Geese With Sheep, Chickens, or Ducks?

Hello! We are thinking of getting geese and we have some questions:

Where should we keep them? Could they be with the sheep or chickens?

Do they eat chicken feed?

How many do you suggest getting?

Is there a hatchery that is preferred for goslings?

I have only kept Toulouse geese. I had them in with the ducks and they did fine. No fighting or issues with trying to mate cross species.

I fed them All Flock. It is a good food for various birds and various ages.

Not sure about keeping them with chickens since geese, like ducks are messy.

I would recommend getting only a couple so you can decide if they are a good fit for you. I started with one gander and one female. My female was a good setter and hatched several batches of goslings.

My gander would puff up and his but never attacked a human. Not sure on other breeds though.

I have Shetlands and Africans, and have had other breeds. I also have a lot of ducks, a few horses, donkey..etc. Mine do fine. They do have separate night pens and are fed there at lockup. (they will get a bit protective during laying season and with their babies). They are "pasture animals" herbivores while ducks are Ominivores like us. I fed flock raiser to babies. Then I feed a mix of grains and some layer or alphlafa/oat horse pellets I can get around here. They prefer all grains. (I mix corn, feed wheat, and oats...cheap around here). We have hawks on our property along with other predators and they ignore our ducks, partly because they see these huge hunkie birds with them. I did not overtame the geese I have, as I have in the past, as they seem to be less likely to 'go after ' people if they aren't handled a lot when young. (I have young grandsons around).

Hi!! I feed my geese normal layer that the chickens get! My geese stay with the chickens, ducks and turkeys. They used to alwats go forage out in the pasture with the cows! I have seen people with geese out with sheep and goats with no issues.
