Keeping chickens at home

3 acres is a lot for them to keep wanting to go to the neighbor’s. Silly chickens. Maybe start by letting them out an hour before sunset that way they can’t wander off too far. Mine free range mostly but right now they’re penned up since I’m trying to clean up my yard and a bunch of other stuff but once spring comes full circle they will be out all day.

I got a dog fence type thing its 20 by 20 and 6 ft tall and then I put a net over it. It’s easy to take down and put up if you want to give them new ground every month. That could be an option. The price for it was around $550-600. I don’t know if that’s still not within your budget.
We have a very small run that they went in when they were about 8 weeks old. It’s too small for them now but they never ventured far from the coop until very recently. We have very strong wind and solid rock for ground so we have issues with it blowing away all the time.

Mine are free ranged all day and never leave the yard. We have 28 acs and its suite a distance for them to travel to reach the neighbors but they never go more than 100yrds (absolutely max) from the coop. Most of the time they are within 60 yrds.

I know thats still a lot of ground on a 3ac parcel. I would suggest looking into adding 4"x4" (assuming your chickens are not small enough to fit through) woven wire fencing to the existing barbed fire fence. It may be just enough of a barrier to deter them from wanting to walk around it and keep them from your neighbors.
For the longest time they stayed very close to the coop. They just recently started adventuring out. That’s what we ultimately wanted to do but don’t know how to do it properly ourselves and any fencers we contact aren’t interested in a “small job”.

The hardest part has been done for you. If there is existing barbed wire fencing, buy the woven wire fencing from you local hardware, feed store, co-op, TSC, etc.

If metal t-posts are supporting the barbed wire, you'll need wire ties to twist around the posts to secure the woven wire. (I used the wire that ties up the roll) works great. Or you can buy them, or use other wires as well.

Remember, this fencing serves only one purpose, to deter the chickens from going through it. Not to keep out predators or any other typical uses.

If the posts are wooden, use poultry staples and hammer thdm into the posts after pulling the woven wire taught.

Its a "small job" but a simple one. You won't need to pay someone to complete it.

It’s not necessary to be rude. If I didn’t know that I wouldn’t be trying to fix the problem.
I was just being facetious, I forget to add smileys to show I'm joking :D
Keeping it light.

Try a few posts and some deer netting between your yard and the neighbor's. It isn't all that expensive--certainly not 2k--goes up easily, high enough so they won't hop over it but can be tightened to the ground with wire staples and will make a good barrier.
This is an excellent idea^^^

Youtube... Youtubers will happily teach you to build that fence.
