For the dogs!!!!!!! I wouldn't even bother to try and have chickens here without my dogs on guard 24/7....would be impossible to keep them safe.

Good dog, Dixie Dog!

Thank you, everyone. I'm not sure what the heck happened. Heard the Chicken 'HELP', got outside, Dixie was sniffing around, feathers were near fence line. Dixie was sniffing around, so I told her to 'GET HIM!' she took off but seemed rather playful like. Maybe the 'Fun' of the Hunt was over? She'd already scared the Poops out of it?
A shelter manager I know called me 4 yrs ago about a dog that had her Front leg broken, wasn't likely to be adopted. She was a Pure Bread Walker hound, found tied to a fence post, VERY RURAL, with her Puppy. Angie KNEW I was/am an easy Mark. Dixie's abuser had long hair, wore a hat. I had the same the 1st time we met & She WAS NOT Friendly then, they had to hold her BACK to let me pass! 4 yrs later, Lots of Lovings, Except for her howling some nights, STEALING Eggs, she's wonderful. I'll always support Shelter dogs. Most KNOW they've been given a 2nd chance and with reasonable expectations, will pay that love back 100 fold..
Thank you SO Much for the Encouragement, Dix will GET HER SHARE,

Just checked the Game Cameras: Hold Your breath, Duluth!

I count 4 hens! Haven't seen them near the house, but with that Brood & my own, Bugs haven't the slightest Chance!!!
A deer and one of my own cats, dogs is all that's been caught on the game cameras, thus far. Trespassing neighbor Knew I bought the G. Cameras before I even got home. Let's hear it for Gossips....Sigh.

Nice pictures!

I had a wild hen and JJ doing the deed on the 15th of May. I really hope to see the Slate crossed Wild ones this fall. Some game manager is going to be shaking his head when they get registered next year, if they make it.

The hen was right between my breeding coops with JJ.

Wouldn't want the State guys to get bored, would we? No, actually, One of MY state guys did a GOOD thing for me a couple of years ago. I'm sure they know there can be some Mixes & Matches.
I'm flattered they MAY have nested so close to my home...
Thanks, again....

So, re: mix and match... would a hybrid turkey be considered domestic? I mean... if it happened to fall into the oven before or after turkey season... seems to me that it would be domestic???

That's a good question. If, in my case, JJ is the father can I just eat them all? Do I need a license to "hunt" my turkeys offspring?

Can I shoot the hen for molesting my Tom?

My small flock has been in a 8X8 outdoor pen that is attached to the coop for about the last 3 weeks. I want to them to roam free but to return to the coop at night. When should I allow them to roam? Also they are about 10 weeks old. (My first flock ever)
