Was I suposed to let some doofus haggle with me on price BEFORE feeding my girls their own eggs as a treat? Oops!

Maybe it's just me but I won't be haggled on egg prices. At #2.50 per dozen, they are being seriously discounted to begin with.

I agree... I did not haggle. It was a take em or leave em deal...

There are a lot of eggs being sold around here, most are going for $2.50. I would like more $2.50 does not cover my feed costs BUT I have lots of free loading birds, (turkeys and Guineas)

I SELL only to those reasonable enough to appreciate, no second chances/offers for even the one who asked for only white eggs. No time for that…Too far out for anyone to 'stop in', THANK HEAVENS…...
Feeding everyone mixed wild bird seed so to supplement for what Molting may have cost their them.1 PR looking better, feathering out, Leghorn coming around S-L-O-W-L-Y, poor girl. Bannix worked REAL well on her from just the few days that have gone by.
My source in NORTHERN CAL, NOT wantabe Sac, says serious rain coming so heading our way…..Been MUCH more like Montana Autumn this year. BEATS THE HECK out of Last year!

How is anyone else's Molting going?

A few of mine look like they have been dipped in lye water but they come out into the snow to go cruising around the property, seeming not to be bothered....most of them are Turkens at that. These are a very tough bunch of birds and even after all these years of owning this breed, I still wonder what it is about them that allows them to tolerate very cold and damp weather.

Hawks are pure evil! But you're right with free range it happens.

O)ne of my chicks got killed by a hawk today!!! It's free ranging though...

Sorry for your loss. We have hawks here too, but we also have many ravens that will chase them away. Had some close calls though.

I have lots of ravens around here too, I have been told they will take a chick, but have not seen that happen, yet. I do not disturb the ravens for the very reason you mention. They keep the hawks at bay. I just wish they could do more to keep the eagles away. They do not chase the eagles as freely as they chase the hawks.

That's interesting. We don't have many eagles here, so I don't have experience with that.

I've never seen a raven try to take a chicken or attack one or even look at them, we kept our chicks secured in a coop or covered run until they were good sized, though.

Bring a live trap and you can take all the eagles you need....I won't say a word to the federal wildlife service!
