Keeping Chickens Free Range

WHEW! Computer died, newer 'puter & internet, LOTS FASTER, has me up & going AGAIN!!
I am partial to cats. Haven't seen my more onry cat even near the chickens but smaller, mouser, doesn't bother, seems afraid of the girls.

My leghorn finally gave me an egg 2 days ago. They have been costing more than giving since early Nov., molting. I Heard if I put a hen in dark place, box, pet carrier, with just water, they will resume laying. Days are getting longer, snow melting, they are roaming all over....

Feedback on how to get my chickens back to WORK after LATE molt?

My SS Hamburgs are just getting back into gear after a hard molt and winter hours, I'm just so happy to see their combs getting red again and their energy picking back up, 2 of them have even started laying again in the last 2 weeks!

It should start to happen soon. Just make sure they have adequate protein, calcium (oyster shell?) and a good balanced feed.

Commercial operations do something much like this but on a larger scale. It works, but it does not sound very nice for the hen.

Yeah, I was thinking that if I had to wait that long, I would not want anyone to even tell me they were coming until a few weeks before.
Are you putting them in the pen when the snow "goes away"?
LOL...im in South Africa...i have never seen snow or touched it!!! And it NEVER goes below 5 degrees celcius!! So i can have chicks the whole year round...lol
