I made my girls a rose petal and mint wading pool today filled with ice and topped with frozen watermelon. What so you do to keep your flock cool when temperatures are in the high 90's pushing 100?

I cut a watermelon in half, scoop out most of the fruit for my family and freeze the bowl-shaped rind. During the course of the day I toss in treats such as strawberry tops and other fruit and vegetable scraps, adding water to top off each layer. In the heat of the day I leave the whole "punch bowl" out for my girls. They mob around it like kids at an ice cream truck. By the end of the day they have pecked it down to a paper-thin rind. Keeps them cool and hydrated and it's fun to watch. Lacking a watermelon rind I have also frozen fruit and veggie scraps in a bowl and dumped it out for them upside down in a metal pan. As the ice melts they can pick out the frozen bits. Yum.
