Keeping Geese respectable at night

do you put your geese in a caged area or shed? My husband and I thought about building them a "hut" but when I first got my pair of saddlebacks i nearly ran myself to death trying to get them back in a large enclosed area. after two days of trying to get them penned, i gave up and just let them wonder about, however now they do tend to follow me around so they might follow me into the chicken run at night. what advice do you have for wintertime - snow and ice? your experience is appreciated!
Mine have their own house and get locked up before night fall, leaving them outside for preds to pick off isn't a good idea. you can train them to go into their area/house by only feeding them inside their enclosed area and teaching them to herd which can be done using 2 long poles a use bamboo or just opening your arms or get someone to help you but moving slowly is the only way or they will scatter,They are pretty hardy even in cold and snow but will need protection from the wind and of course predators.
