Well then, you’re missing the point of this thread. To make it 100% clear, I am here to ask this community SPECIFICALLY about hawk protection. The title of this post is not “what killed my chickens?!” Or asking about general predator control. I’m not asking about coon, opossum, weasel, bear, skunk, cougar, bobcat, snake, starving homeless person, or any other non-winged predator.

Well, it is quite rude of you to imply that I don’t care about my chickens. I appreciate your input about the goose for assistance with hawks, as it pertains to the problem I’m having. If you have any more advice about hawks, I welcome it. Have a nice day.

Our current run has wire netting over the whole roof, but years ago before we got our own chickens, I was part of a community garden that had a couple hundred chickens. The run was too big to make covering it practical, so we strung lines of wire a couple feet apart along the top, and hung old CDs and DVDs every foot or so along each wire. The idea was that the CDs hanging in the breeze created flashing reflections that appeared as a barrier to any overhead predators. It seemed to work, since we never lost any to hawks.

Thank you! I was thinking of using aviary netting with reflective tape or something reflective hanging from it. Was considering putting the owl decoys on a post or two as well, but that seems like it may be a waste of money

As to keeping out hawks/other flying raptors....

I think even with flashing/flapping things, it is best if you change it up.

The same old, same old... and after a time they get used to it. But then I think I have an insanely high number of raptors.

But it was okay when I was talking about the age of my goose then she was fine with it and that had nothing to do with "the topic"...but I won't add any more to this discussion...or anything she posts in the future.

We have alot problems with hawks as well but usually they take the whole body I find that fake owls help a lot but make sure you move them time to time
