Keeping multiple flocks

Yep, we had the same here.
That little heat wave was disgusting, glad it's over.
I know. One day my hens and I were huddling inside our houses, thinking "This is May, too cold!" The next day we were all panting and sitting next to frozen water bottles and fans. My poor zebra finch got hit especially hard because she lives in the upstairs of our house and so whenever anyone turns the oven on, our upstairs gets so hot. And she is too small to enjoy the fans or water bottles, so she just sits in front of the open window because I have yet to find a better way to cool the poor thing off.

I have three separate flocks, since I have three roosters. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with it. It takes a little more time for their daily care, going to three runs to throw food and fill water.

For me it does not even take the extra run, since they have the "just in case something breaks" feeder and waterer for my coop of 24, and there is just two of them. I just pile the food bucket a bit higher to top off their food and bring a water bottle with a screw lid down for water.

After "freezer camp" ... pick another six to join them.

Then ... take one or two of the older, lowest in the pecking order hen(s), and introduce them to the polish ...

Trying to add only two to 24 is asking for trouble ... you don' say what breed, or size of chickens the older "big flock" is ... but, if it were up to me, I'd either build another coop, or have less chickens in that size of coop/run ...

I was also thinking of just taking the bad eggs to freezer camp too and getting rid of them and the old ones would leave me with 14-16. Then I was going to run up to rural king and get two polish and four of something else (probably two wyandottes and two black stars) depending on what they have because I just know from what a friend found out for me that some polish are coming in at some point. At six weeks I was going to put the polish in with the babies (older polish) and the other pullets in the main flock.

14-16 is too many for that size coop ... don't add more, unless you add another coop and run ... or like trouble. ;)
