keeping neighbors dogs off the property, what kind of dog can i get?

PS never use poison for anything other than rats, i have seen animals poisoned and it is a terrible way to die. do the right thing and protect your animals like you would protect your children, you would not poison your neighbor if they called your kid a name would ya? that is what kids do and dogs do what dogs do ;)

On this subject in almost all areas poisoning something beyond rodents (especially a dog or cat) is a crime (sometimes a Felony) and can literately rehouse you to an all expenses paid vacation in a birdcage...

Also on the subject of poisoning rodents care should also be taken, most 'rodent' poison is either in pellet form or in a block either can be a desirable 'snack' to poultry if they get access to it especially when you consider that many rodents like to transport and tuck their food away for later, meaning they could remove it from the bait area and place it right in you coop for example...

I have never owned a corgi but i think one would fit in great here if i could find working lines, every one around here just bred for profit and don't care about what they were bred for.
Do you have a pic of your corgi cross?
No, i don't have pictures of the corgi cross. She was around in my very early twenties. Decades ago..... I always suspected her father was the lemon and white beagle just down the road. She looked so much like a corgi it was uncanny. Funny story.... For a short time, she and I lived in an apartment in town. One day she took a walk to the local Safeway (grocery store), went in, jumped in the meat case, selected a steak, and headed home. I had to pick her up from the pound AND drive down to Safeway ad pay for her steak!

Those dogs were the good dogs in my life. I have two house dogs now, chihuahua crosses, and an outside dog, an aussie cross. She is the dog from hell, dumber than a box of rocks, kills any kind of fowl she can get her lips on. I love her to death, she is sweet as can be, until she gets loose!

I had an Aussie years ago that was a perfect dog or so i thought untill i started missing a chicken here and there, left me scratching my head cause i could not figure out what was getting them with all the dogs i had to guard them, then one morning i caught the Aussie coming down from the hay bales and that got me to wondering what he was doing up there so i went and had a look, up in the bales i found a hen and various chicken parts and it all clicked, he had been taking the birds on the sly cause they were not afraid of him, i ended up re homing him cause i could never catch him in the act to break him of it, he was just a sneaky dog.

They really are THAT smart!

We are having neighbor dog issues as well. It is so frustrating to have someone else's irrisponsibility intrude on your life. It's not the animals fault and we are trying to be good neibors and kind to the animals, but my girls come first. Invest in fencing as soon as possible, that's what we are saving for and until then keep a close eye on your flock. Our nuisance dogs are slipping under barbed wire and so far stand on our property and bark at us. A good scolding usually sends them on their way.

Send some no. 8 shot their way and maybe they'll stay home.

sucks eh? I hate the idea of hurting or killing the dogs, but I plan to increase my flock this year, people around here are nuts for fresh farm eggs.. so i want to get to at least 60 chickens

Alright so , my neighbor just dropped by to see if i needed my driveway cleared tomorrow. ( its snow storming here and 25cm of snow is expected) and we started talking about the dogs. He told me, if they are bothering you just shoot em with the pellet gun or the paintball gun. If that doesn't teach them to leave your birds alone then grab the 22 and shoot em with that.

So I guess that solves my problem. I hope a few pellets to the *** will teach them because i really don't like killing anything.
